Pontiac GTOpontiac.pngIt's starting to sound like a bad soap opera but Auto Week is now reporting that GM will be bringing back the GTO in 2008.

This news comes only days after GM announced that the GTO was done. Auto Week is claiming that in late 2008 an all new GTO model will be revealed using the latest rear wheel drive Zeta platform; it's possible that the car will be built on the same line as the Camaro.

This information has come directly from General Motors vice president, Bob Lutz at the Geneva motor show.

Although the current GTO is being built in Australia, there is a good indication that the next GTO will be built in North America. Currently the Australian dollar exchange rate to the US dollar has negatively affected the cost of GTO which GM feels has a large part to do with poor sales of the GTO.

the GTO is the best car in the world, hands down their is no compotishion in my eyes'.sure there are faster cars but the gto is my dream car and i would almost do anything to have one. iwant the 2004 GTO, exteir orange, duel tail pipes, nice crome rims, two hood scoops.and thats my dream car.the 2004 GTO.

i am glad the gto has been discontinued, it looked horrible. it does not should not share the same name as a sixties muscle car. it is just a mutant grand prix. i hope that GM stops smoking crack long enough to make a respectable muscle car again. they should take a page out of dodge's challenger retro styling.
