alfa-romeo.pngSeveral weeks ago it was reported that Alfa Romeo would be putting the stunning 8c Competizione concept into production. But Fastdrive.com is now reporting that a decision has been made not to produce the car because of fears that the 8c would cut into sales of the Maserati 4200GT.

It was also feared that such a high dollar limited production coupe would not be able to be supported by the existing network of Alfa Romeo dealers. There is hope that the styling cues from the 8c might make their way on to a smaller more high volume Alfa car in the near future maybe in time for Alfa's return to the United States.

alfa-romeo.pngRemember the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione concept that debuted at the 2003 Frankfurt auto show? The V8 powered, carbon fiber, front engined super car that everyone was drooling over might actually see production! Over two years after it's debut Alfa's new CEO, Antonio Baravalle, has now proclaimed 'It is my dream to do it. It is planned to have the 8C ready for the Paris show in September and to take orders for a 500-car production run. The final details are still in the air but it is most likely to be a carbon fiber body over a spaceframe chassis, with an engine based on the block used by the current Ferrari / Maserati V8s. Target horsepower will be around 440bhp, no price has yet been set.
